For centuries, men and women have been trying to look for newer ways to delay aging. Our quest for eternal youthfulness has been going on relentlessly and will continue as long there is human life on earth.

The positive effects of resveratrol on human health were uncovered in the early 20th century, but resveratrol has caught the attention of the public only in recent times when it was found to be plentiful in red grapes and thus in red wine.

Japanese Knotweed, another plant known to contain high quantities of resveratrol has been consumed in Asia for thousands of years. Only in 1963 was the nutrient successfully separated from the plant.

Though this nutrient has been part of our diet for thousands upon thousands of years, as mentioned earlier, only recently has resveratrol hogged so much limelight that people are flocking to buy it with the hope of youthful looks and enhanced longevity.

Benefits of Resveratrol

Plenty of study has gone into unearthing the health benefits of this compound on humans.

If taken regularly, resveratrol is known to impede the activity of cytokines which cause diseases, obesity related problems like diabetes, blocked arteries and cardiac disturbances.

What’s more, this compound can considerably reduce death rates on account of cancer and cardiovascular illnesses, by controlling the proliferation of free radicals!

Resveratrol is able to control many age-related ailments by improving cells’ efficiency, due to which menopausal and arthritic complaints are staved off.

Other benefits include improvement in blood circulation, and the treatment of HSV, which is responsible for painful and contagious cold sores that occur in the oral cavity.

This compound’s role in reducing LDL cholesterol and enhancing HDL cholesterol has been confirmed by experts.

Research by Ohio University

Research is being conducted world over to study the benefits of resveratrol in alleviating various diseases.

In fact, the northeastern Ohio University has been able to discover the positive results of resveratrol in curing cold sores.

After a number of experiments, they found out that cold sores and the virus responsible for them could be controlled by using a local application that had resveratrol in it, anywhere from two to five times in a day, with no side effects.

If looking your best is important to you, resveratrol should be too. Taking a solid resveratrol supplement every day will help keep cold sores away, and will smooth out lines and wrinkles.

Resveratrol as a Dietary Supplement

People must understand even though resveratrol has a number of health benefits, it cannot treat all diseases, and it certainly is not a substitute for regular food.

If your daily diet lacks certain important ingredients, only then you must take a food supplement which contain the important nutrients in their natural form, in order to derive the maximum benefit.

Unfortunately you would have to eat several pounds of grapes or drink several bottles of wine to get the maximum benefit from resveratrol. That is why I constantly talk about adding a resveratrol supplement to your diet. Just something you can take every morning for the important benefits of this wonderful antioxidant.

Keep your skin clean, clear, smooth, and shiny with resveratrol.
